Countdown to final results

E+21 - Tuesday, Nov. 24

We have added another 546 ballots to our vote count. We will not do another update until Dec. 1 - which is the deadline to certify the vote.

We have less than 100 ballots that will be added to the final vote count, plus any ballots that are cleared if voters submit their signature verification statement due by November 29.

We have more than 200 ballots that were challenged because the voter's signature on the ballot envelope does not compare to the voter's signature on file. We also have 146 voters who failed to sign their ballot envelope. All voters have been mailed the form and a postage paid envelope, and efforts have been made to contact them via phone number or email if provided.

E+13 - Monday, Nov. 16

We added an additional 675 ballots to the vote count today.

We are still reseaching some Same Day ballots and have started our research on the Provisional ballots cast.

We continue to try to contact voters whose signatures on the ballot envelopes do not compare to the signature we have on file. And, voters who failed to sign their ballot envelope. Voters have until November 29 to cure a signature.

We will do another update next week that will include ballots that have cleared research, signature challenges and have been sent from other counties.

These results are NOT final. The law gives us until Dec. 1 to certify the election. Our plan is to have most ballots in and counted before Thanksgiving. We will still add qualified ballots cleared due to signature cures and ballots qualified that are from voters who registered and voted on the same day or voted provisionally.

E+3 - Friday, Nov. 6

There will not be a vote count update today. There was an issue with reporting the write-in votes, and that has to be corrected before we can continue to count the outstanding ballots.

We are continuing with our manual tally of the ballots. We are also researching several mailed ballots and double checking some signatures. A team has started to process the Same Day Voter Registration ballots. We must first add the voter to our voter rolls and confirm they did not vote somewhere else.

Our next vote count update will be Monday, Nov. 9. We suspect we will add 1,500 to 2,000 ballots to the total on that day.

E+2 - Thursday, Nov. 5

As of 2pm today, we have counted 140,550 votes. That includes all of the ballots we received up to the mail delivery on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

That number does not include (the outstanding number of ballots below are subject to change):

  • ballots that are in review - 1,447
  • ballots that need to be remade - 500
  • Same Day Voter Registration ballots - 1438
  • Provisional ballots - 149

We will continue to receive ballots in the mail. As long as the ballot is postmarked on or before Nov. 3, and it was cast by a qualified voter, we can add that ballot to the count. In addition, we are still receiving ballots that were returned to another California county.

We have done our random draw of the batches to begin our manual tally of the ballots to confirm the machine count. The manual tally started today and can be viewed on our cameras.

For ballots voted in person, the law requires us to recount 2 batches, but we have the discretion to tally more.  Our office decided to tally 3 batches from each of the scanners that counted ballots that were cast in person.  The following batches were drawn:

  • 115,291 votes cast using the ballot we mailed to the voter

Today, Wednesday, Nov. 4, we are starting to process the remaining ballots that have been received. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 100 problem envelopes that need to be processed by hand
  • 300 review/damaged ballots

In addition, there are an estimated:

  • 1,438 Same Day Voter Registration ballots and
  • 149 Provisional ballots

These numbers are subject to change as we continue to audit the election.

Also, the post office has until Nov. 20 to deliver to us ballots that are postmarked on or before Nov. 3.

And, since any CA voter can drop off their ballot to any CA drop box or voting location, we anticipate getting more ballots from other counties.

We plan to do a vote count update Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week and we will post updated results on our website at www.votescount.us

We are also moving ahead with our audit of the results. We will do our random draw of the ballot batches to be recounted Thursday, Nov. 5 at 10am.

The law gives us until Dec. 1 to certify the election. Our plan is to have most ballots in and counted before Thanksgiving. With final ballots being added due to signature cure and research on the Same Day and Provisional ballots.
