Katherine Beiers

Retired Librarian

Thirty years ago, I was first appointed to our City Council to fill the unexpired term of another councilmember. Thereafter, I was elected to the Council for three full terms and served twice as mayor.  I know the value of collaborating with my colleagues to get things done even when we may disagree on matters of policy. I can and will work effectively with the current mayor, the vice-mayor, the previous mayor and all of my colleagues on the Council. I will work across political boundaries in a positive way to address the many challenges confronting our community.

Throughout my years on the Council, I’ve retained an independence of mind as well as a spirit of respect and collegiality for those who serve the public interest. I’ve been an environmental leader from the time I helped to lead the successful effort to preserve Lighthouse Field to my current work with the Santa Cruz County Land Trust. I’m active in efforts to address homelessness, affordable housing, and climate change.

As a marathon runner, I know what hard work means and I am prepared to do that work for our City.
